A frenum (also called frenulum) is a tissue attachment that connects areas such as the tongue, lip, or cheek. Sometimes, a frenum can be unusually tight, thick, or short, which can cause various issues. For instance, a tight frenum can contribute to localized gum recession and may also create gaps between teeth. A frenectomy is a simple surgical procedure that removes the frenum.
