Crown lengthening treatment involves removing excess gum tissue from around one or more teeth, exposing more of the tooth structure above the gumline. This procedure may be recommended if you have a “gummy” smile or need better access to address issues with decayed, broken teeth, or infected gums.
During the treatment, your gums are gently moved away from the tooth and jawbone. If necessary, the bone is smoothed before reattaching the gums lower on the teeth. With more tooth structure visible above the gumline, your teeth appear longer, and your gums become less prominent.
